We'll teach you how to make fantastic art by learning traditional skills of drawing and painting from observation. Regardless of your previous experience or abilities. Everyone can learn from any age: creating great pictures requires practice developing techniques. Once you've learnt the basic level, we'll continue to progress you in each new project you'll embark on. We'll nurture your skill development, encourage and support you on your individual artistic path to fulfil your potential.
We use the traditional methods of copying from masters, photographs and plaster casts as our learning resources. We'll guide you in choosing your source material to best suit your level and teach your chosen topic. You can explore: landscapes, portraits, still lives, animals, abstract.
All while learning the formal elements of art and design + theory and history (should you so wish).
You will have the choice of working from hundreds of source materials from contemporary and historical paintings from around the globe or bring in your own images. Should you be a beginner we'll recommend working from your own photographs for your second piece with us, as it will be easier to approach this once you have learned the basics.
We use charcoal and acrylic as mediums and offer additional courses and masterclasses for those who prefer working in oils or watercolours.
We are passionate about nurturing our students to develop confidence, improve focus, creativity and analytical thinking. Engaging in the creative process has a proven holistic power to help improve wellbeing for all students, including those experiencing mental health difficulties.
We are an anti - racist organisation with zero tolerance policy. We are committed to SEND inclusion and modelling diversity, providing equal learning and working opportunities to represent the diverse ethnicities, religions, cultures, gender identities and socio-economic backgrounds which enrich our local community. We warmly welcome disabled and neurodiverse students.
Our tutors are professional artists who regularly exhibit their work. All of our tutors are painting and drawing specialists, have BA Fine Art degrees & up to date DBS checks. We provide them with extensive and continuous training to best meet your needs.
